Meet the Fashion Bloggers| Glisters and Blisters
Hi Michelle, tell us a little bit about yourself (who you are/what you do/where you’re from, etc.).
My name is Michelle, Chinese-Indonesian, and a freelance stylist/photographer. I have a personal style blog called Glisters & Blisters.
How would you define your style?
My style is generally sophisticated. The rest of it depends on my mood that changes on a daily basis.
What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?
I blogged because I needed a place to store my inspirations and all the thoughts going in my head. One day, I posted outfit photos and I got good feedback. From there, I became a consistent personal style blogger. My awesome and supportive readers are ones who keep me on the blogging business.
How did you choose the name of your blog?
It’s based on what I believe for fashion and any other life situations. Basically it means that nothing good comes for “free”. I feel that they always come with great effort, hardwork, and perhaps pain along the process. For example, you look glistering in high heels, but you’ll have to pay for the pain (and sometimes blisters) that come with it.
What was the best comment you ever received from a reader?
There are loads of great comments that I get but a couple times, my readers tell me how I can pull off a simple outfit with poise. Simple remarks, but it really made me smile.
What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe?
My Balenciaga shoes and purple part-time bag, Patrizia Pepe leather pants, all of my Kain Label shirts (very comfortable for my tropical weather and great fit!), and a gold lame tank dress from 3.1 Phillip Lim.
What is your top fashion tip?
Be yourself and be comfortable in what you wear. Wear clothes accordingly to your taste and body type.
What advice do you have for new bloggers or people considering starting a blog?
You don’t have to look weird in order to be a fashion blogger. Many people have the idea that bloggers dress in a weird sense while some of the best bloggers out there are just pulling their daily outfits off with confidence. Simply be yourself, write good content, and be consistent.
What importance do social networks have for you?
They definitely play an important in driving traffic to my blog and they are also one of the ways for me to broadcast my thoughts.
Your first thought in the morning?
Can I sleep more?
What is your favourite thing to do when not blogging?
Trying out new restaurants around town with my friends and doing a styling/photography session for fun.
For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city?
Tokyo and Paris tops of my list of fashionable cities.
How would you describe fashion in the city where you live?
We are one eclectic bunch. There are lots of style tribes here and within those tribes there are still a lot of lost people, people who are still trying to find their style identity. Jakarta is quite of a trendy city. Every year you can spot one trend that EVERYONE wears. When you go to a mall, it’s often to see a clad of girls wearing pretty much the same outfit combination. Sometimes, it gets a bit boring.
